'Unmarked Moments' - Amelia Johnson
This book donated by Amelia Johnson (Risolana Project Manager) has some unique moments tucked away.
“What was the last thing you used as a bookmark? Perhaps it was one of those laminated strips of paper that says something like “reading rocks!” above an image of a rock. Or maybe a glorified paper clip of the kind you could find at a Scholastic book fair. Probably though, you use whatever scrap of paper is nearby when you needed a break from reading. Unmarked Moments is a collection of these unassuming treasures.
In a literary journey, bookmarks serve as a moment of pause, a guardian of progress. The examples in these pages, although stripped of their physical utility, so too preserve a moment. Collected from the discarded and forgotten books of strangers, each of these bookmarks become an artifact of an unknown personal history. They serve as canvases upon which narratives, however speculative, can be woven.
We have all used and promptly discarded our fair share of bookmarks. As objects, they exist within the tier of ordinary and unremarkable. This book aims to remove them, if only for a brief time, from that tier. By collecting these bookmarks onto a page, I hope to instill a touch of wonder in the mundane objects and unmarked moments of life.”
