Typesetting the Movement
Teaching Artists: Karl Orozco + Amelia Johnson
With its bold, vibrant colors and ease of creating multiples, Risolana is excited by the ways the risograph can be optimized for social and political action. This analog risograph workshop is designed for New Mexico’s activists, movement builders, and community leaders interested in signage as a tool to unite people, amplify voices, and disrupt power. This three hour workshop will discuss the relationship between signage and social movements, review technical information for typography and typesetting, explore ways of composing and layering analog riso prints, and brainstorm future uses of the risograph for community building and direct action. Participants will walk away with 20 copies of a 2 color risograph print.
This workshop is open to community members who are actively involved in a socially progressive community group or organization. This workshop is funded as a direct reinvestment of funds from Risolana’s earned income and is free to attend. We intend for participants in this workshop to be primed to use the printer and techniques when protests or direct actions arise.
This workshop is a free offering funded by Risolana projects.
