What is a Risograph?
A risograph is a printer invented by the Riso Kagaku Corporation in Japan in the 80βs. The Risograph uses ink to produce vibrant digital prints with a uniquely handcrafted feel. Although originally marketed to corporations, schools, and churches for their efficiency and low cost, artists have recently used risographs to start small presses and DIY printmaking spaces.

Our Mission
Risolana started in 2021 to fill the need for a publicly accessible risograph studio in the state of New Mexico. We prioritize empowering our community by teaching the process and uses of the risograph over simply providing printing services. We aim to:
Cultivate an artmaking space as accessible as the risograph itself
Establish a network of socially engaged artists and designers
Organize a printed archive of Albuquerqueβs artistic and social movements

Artists-In-Residence 2026:
Gage Fernandez
and Madison Ortega
Madison and Gage are a dynamic creative duo who have been collaborating since childhood. Their work reflects their shared roots in New Mexico and their experiences with rural living and gentrification. Maddy, a writer, food creator, and bakery owner, brings a unique perspective to her projects, often infusing them with humor and a touch of the surreal through her food-centric art. Gage, a multi-talented illustrator and tattoo artist, contributes his distinctive design style, which spans album art, sign making, printmaking, and graphic design. Together, they've developed a collaborative voice that's both funny and powerful. Currently they're channeling their creative energy into exploring the quirks and complexities of New Mexico culture, seeking to capture the nuances of their lives here as children and adults.
Gage Fernandez
Gage Fernadez hails from Taos, NM. A multi-talented artist, Fernandez's creative endeavors range from tattooing, illustration, graphic design, screen-printing, crafts, and many other such things. They find inspiration in the fantastical, in the mystical, and all things strange.
Fernandez has been creating art their entire life, always finding solace in sketchbook pages. Self-taught in every regard until They struck out for Tacoma, Washington, to complete a two-year tattoo apprenticeship. They are now home again, have a sun-filled tattoo studio, and are brimming with inspiration and passion for all things art!

Madison Ortega
Madison Ortega, a multidisciplinary artist, weaves together food, art, and community to create immersive experiences. Growing up in an artist community such as Taos, Ortega developed a deep appreciation for the intersection of culture, cuisine, and creativity. After years in the food industry, they felt burnt out and lost touch with their creative side. It wasn't until they started their own business and started prioritizing their creative eye, that they found their way back to art as a way of life.
As Ortegaβs creative journey evolved, they began to merge their skills, collaborating with magazines, curating culinary exhibits, and bringing their thoughts to life through food styling, painting, and writing. Through their work, Ortega celebrates the beauty of food, community, and creative expression. Ortega is constantly seeking new ways to push boundaries and craft experiences that are visually stunning, thought-provoking, and engaging.
